Facts about white boxer dogs

chels5
Chelsea here to discuss the facts about white boxer dogs. I'm here with my best buddy, Obie. I am six weeks older than him, but we have been best friends all our lives...we were still kids when this picture was taken.

White boxer dogs have the same fun loving spirit of other boxers, we just have a white coat. This is no different than humans that have dark hair or blonde hair. We are the same in every other aspect.

We do have more occurance of deafness than our colored companions, perhaps as high as 25 to 30 percent, but this cannot be proven. This is due to the absence of pigment cells in the inner ear. This results in a loss of some sensory hair cells at around 6 to 8 weeks of age. As a general rule, the more color there is in the coat of a white boxer, the lower the risk of deafness. Of course there are many other causes of deafness, just as there is in humans.

Deafness however does not make of less of a pet. We can learn and function just fine in a family that understands our needs. Our quality of live is just as good as any other boxer in a family that loves and cares for us.

As stated in the introduction, white boxer dogs can and do sunburn. You can prevent this by applying a sunscreen on the unprotected skin. I never got sunburned, but I did not live outside full time.

White boxers are not recognized as acceptable by most major dog organizations, but if you want just a pet and not a show dog, this does not matter. Not being a show dog does not make me less lovable or valuable, just ask Mom and Dad!

We should be spayed and neutered just as any dog should be to prevent unwanted puppies. This is just good practice. Unfortunately white boxers have a stigma attached to them in some circles, but not with any of their loving owners.

The life span of white boxer dogs is the same as those boxers who have color. I am almost 11 and the health problems I have are related to my Hip Dysplasia and not my color. I am been healthy all of my life. (except for my hips). I do have allergies, like bee stings. I got stung once on my face and it swelled up twice it's normal size. Mom gave me some Benadril and it stopped the reaction. I was fine in about 30 minutes. This may or may not work on all boxers, so you seek your Vets advice.

The size of the white boxer is the same as other boxers. We are not stunted because of our lack of color.

As you can see we are just as much a boxer as any that have color. We should be treated the same, with love and affection. We are not to be scorned, or thrown away. We have feelings and want to be loved and are more than capable of returning that love many times over. We are after all, just a boxer who can't hide in the dark!
