Boxer Dog Digging

chels16A Boxer dog digging your yard up, is not a pleasant experience. If fact, Dad says it's downright annoying at best.

Like other problems, you must try to learn why your boxer is digging. There are many reasons for your boxer to dig....and if your not careful, he will find everyone of them.

Boxer dog digging can be caused by any of the following reasons:

  • Boredom
  • Prey
  • Escape
  • Comfort

Your boxer will dig if he is bored and discovers that it's fun to watch your yard fly through the air! So you must find something more fun than flying dirt and grass to stop this type of digging.

One of the best ways is to keep him exercised and stimulated by your company if possible. A boxer alone is a boxer bored. We need to be stimulated as we are intelligent dogs. Play with your boxer daily and provide toys and other items to keep him entertained.

Sometimes boxer dog digging is caused by him looking for prey. If you have moles or other underground animals your boxer could smell it and be looking for it.

Make your yard unpleasant to burrowing animals.

Your boxer is not immune to "the grass is greener on the other side" syndrome! Maybe he wants to see what is "out there" Take him for a walk and let him see, but make sure being inside the fence is better than outside. As Mom and Dad stated, Obie and I did not want to dig out, if we had gotten out we would have dug back in!

If you boxer still wants to dig under the fence, bury chicken wire at the base of the fence. Attach some chain link fence to the bottom on the fence and lay it on the ground. This will be uncomfortable to walk on. You can also try putting some of the dogs feces in the hole, most boxers will not dig through their own feces.

Sometimes your boxer dog digging is caused by anxiety or by being to cold or hot. Make sure, if your boxer does stay outside, he has a properly insulated dog house along with plenty of water in a spill proof container.

Of course the best way to stop boxer dog digging is to keep your boxer in the house and get to know him.
