Boxer Dog Dental Care

buffy Never overlook boxer dog dental care as it could kill your boxer! That's right, if you do not take care of your boxers teeth it can cause gingivitis. Gingivitis can lead to advanced gum disease, which if left untreated can cause infections that can become life threatening.

You should start a regular inspection of your boxers mouth as early as two years old. Look for healthy white teeth, pink gums that are tight against the teeth and a breath that is not offensive.

Boxer dog dental care should also include routine visits to your vet for regular cleanings just like people. Your vet will help you determine the frequency.

If you notice "bad breath", brown or yellow teeth, receding gums, red or swollen gums, loose teeth, take your boxer to the vet for an exam. Depending on the severity of the problem, your vet may just clean the teeth, or he may run blood work to see if there is an infection that needs to be treated before cleaning can take place. Of course the best medicine is preventative.

Here are some things you can do to make sure your boxer dog dental care keeps your boxers teeth healthy.

Brush your boxers teeth. Your vet can show you how and recommend how often you need to do it. Do not use a human toothpaste as this is not designed to be swallowed and may upset your boxers stomach. Use only a pet toothpaste. We did not like to get our teeth brushed, and we made some funny faces, but it didn't kill us.

Give your boxer something to chew on. Dogs in the wild keep their teeth and gums healthy by chewing on bones and other objects. They are also more active and have their mouth open more allow fresh air in. Most boxers, especially as we get older, do not exercise as much and our mouths stay closed more. It is thought that bacteria grows more in the mouth that is shut.

Natural bones are the best for keeping your dogs teeth and gums healthy, but there are many good alternatives. Treat filled bones work nice as do rope chew toys, dental chew toys and edible dog chews.

Encourage your boxer to chew on any of these and along with your help your boxer dog dental care should allow your boxer to have healthy teeth into old age.

Check our dental care products for products that will give your boxer healthy teeth and gums.
