Chelsea tells her white boxer dog stories

Growing Up (continued)

As mentioned earlier, I was possessive of my boneys. They were all mine, even if Mom and Dad gave one to Obie. I would give him "The Eye" and I would go and get it from him. He never argued with me about it either! Dad called me Ms. Miney, can you imagine that!

I wanted to make sure Obie would not get them, so I would pack them with me when I went to bed. In the morning I would take them back to the living room. He was not going to get them as I slept. I don't know why Mom and Dad thought it was funny, it was serious to me!

As talked about in the white boxer dog section of the site, some white boxer dogs are deaf. I was not deaf, and could hear fine. I could hear if Obie was getting one of my boneys from anywhere in the house! If he was, I would come running to stop him. We never fought, because all it would take is, you guessed it, "The Eye" and he would let me have it.

Mom and Dad had me spayed around that time as well. I did fine and Mom stayed with me the whole time. When I went to sleep Mom was there, when, I woke up Mom was there. I was not scared because she was there and I had learned she would not let anything happen to me.

I was glad she was there, because I had been mistreated as a baby, I was afraid of strangers and did not like strange places. Mom being there made it less traumatic.

You should spay you boxer before they come into heat the first time, which is around 6 months of age. White boxer dogs should not be allowed to breed and all pets should be spayed or neutered. There are too many unwanted boxers in the shelters and rescues now.

It is around this time that Mom and Dad learned I had Hip Dysplasia. This was a sad day for them as they had seen what Buffy had gone through with her Hip Dysplasia. I was to young to understand what that meant now, but I would soon learn.

Another cute boxer dog story took place when I was around a year or two old.

Mom and Dad had taught us not to get on the furniture when we were puppies. We minded them because we wanted to please, but Obie and I both remembered how soft and comfy the loveseat and sofa were.

One day mom let Obie get on the loveseat, and she said I could too, but I remember her saying no, so I was not as sure as Obie was that it was OK to be up there. Mom's make mistakes too. I was jealous of Obie being on the loveseat and not me, so I figured I would fix him.

I would wait until Mom and Dad were gone, (they love to play golf) and I would get on the couch and mess up the cover real bad, and get down, so that when they came home, they would think Obie did it. And it worked too....for a while.

Mom was suspicious, thinking it was me, because Obie never messed up the cover while they were home. But by this time I was daddy's little girl, and he said he thought it was Obie, stating he was doing it because he was mad we left him home. WHEW!

Moms have pretty good instincts, so to prove who was doing it, they set up the video camera while they were gone. I did not know what the camera was, so, as usual after they left, I jumped on the couch, messed it up good, and got down, all within 2 minutes. They were gone for over 4 hours and I was only on the couch long enough to mess it up and get down.

Mom said "I told you it was Chelsea", the scam was over, I was caught! But instead of getting in trouble, they just laughed and said, "Who says dogs can't reason." I gradually became comfortable with getting on the loveseat and couch as I got older. In fact, it became my favorite place next to my bed, that is.

It was around this time we lost Buffy. Even though we had our fights, I loved her. I missed her so much. She was like a mom to me in many ways. She taught me to use the doggie door, do my business outside, guard the property and played with me. I tried to do everything Buffy did. I wanted to be like her. She and I were both daddy's girls.
